Sharpe faces the murderous General Guy Loup to put an end to his criminal behavior.

Sharpe loses his captaincy and his enemy Sargent Hakeswill reappears in his old company.

Napoleon sends the villainous Colonel Laroux to eliminate El Mirador, the top agent of Major Michael Hogan. Sharpe is severely wounded but is nursed back to heatlh and pursues the Colonel for revenge.
